A patient with a phaeochromocytoma arising from the interatrial septum is
reported. A 131I-metaiodobenzylguanidine scan and magnetic resonance
imaging were useful for tumour localization. Complete removal of the tumour
in the right atrium was performed on cardiopulmonary bypass. The right
atrial wall and the interatrial septum were reconstructed with two patches.
This is the first successful operation for an intracardiac
phaeochromocytoma arising from the interatrial septum.
