Intrathoracic extramedullary hematopoiesis (IEH) is a rare condition,
usually asymptomatic, which accompanies a chronic hematologic disease. A
72-year-old woman with IEH is presented. The patient had no past medical
history of anemia and was completely asymptomatic. Open biopsy showed
extramedullary hematopoiesis (EH) due to heterozygous sickle cell anemia.
