Key Words: Atrium • Myxoma • Thrombus • Echocardiography

During operation for ‘suspected myxoma’ in an 86-year-old man a freely mobile old thrombus 3 cm in diameter was removed from the right atrium. The postoperative course was uneventful and 3 years later the patient is doing well (Figs. 1 and 2) . The case illustrates the advisability of preparedness for alternative diagnosis in surgery for ‘right-sided atrial myxoma’.
