Thank you very much for you letter concerning our manuscript, which we have previously published in the European Journal of Cardio-thoracic Surgery [1].

We strongly appreciate your great interest in and your extraordinary knowledge on the topic.

We deeply apologize for the delay of our reply, but thought that these questions had been addressed by our previously published reply to Dr Belcher and Dr Muriithi [2].

Again, we absolutely agree with you that prophylactic transfusion of blood products in CABG patients is obsolete and should definitely not be performed in these patients, which is underlined by our data. However, we agree that the final sentence of our paper may indeed cause some understanding problems. The meaning of the sentence is that we suggest that "This approach (NOT to use blood products in CABG patients!) should be considered for routine use in patients undergoing CABG without previous thoracic surgical interventions or coagulation disorders".

We hope this will clarify the issue now and take the opportunity to thank you once again for your special interest in our work.
