Rupture of abdominal aortic aneurysm into duodenum

A 76-year-old-male was admitted to another hospital with suspicion of abdominal aneurysm. Emergency computed tomography showed an abdominal aortic aneurysm measuring 6x4 cm in diameter ruptured into the duodenum (Fig. 1)

He was immediately transferred to our institution for emergency surgery. Unfortunately the patient died upon admission despite resuscitative efforts. Autopsy confirmed ruptured infrarenal abdominal aneurysm into the posterior aspect of the transverse portion of the duodenum and measured 2 cm in diameter.
