Blood clot cast of the bronchial tree

A 25-year-old pregnant woman developed a coagulopathy and haemoptysis. She expectorated a plug of reddish semi-solid material which was placed in normal saline. This showed a cast of the bronchial tree (Fig. 1
). The patient went on to recover fully, and delivered a healthy child at term.
