A 5-year old girl was operated for a broncogenic cyst in the left lung. Postoperatively she developed a large parenchymal abcess and subsequently underwent pneumonectomy because conservative treatment failed. She had no functional impairment during childhood and at 12-year follow-up she is a top athlete on the national athletics team (Figs. 1 and 2 ).
