Non-treated late bronchopleural fistula

A 53-year-old male patient underwent left pneumonectomy for adenocarcinoma; an exceedingly long left main bronchus was left behind. Four months after surgery bronchopleural fistula was diagnosed based on sputum discharge and X-ray findings. The patient did not accept bronchoscopy or drainage, but he remains asymptomatic despite a full lumen bronchopleural fistula confirmed by computed tomography two years after surgery (Fig. 1
).
