We would like to bring to your notice certain errors in terminology in our article ‘Sternal dehiscence after cardiac surgery and ACE type 1 inhibition’ [1].

  1. There are no ‘types’ in ACE inhibitors or ACE inhibition, as implied. They should have been referred to as ACE inhibitors in the entire text instead of ACE type 1 inhibitors including the title.
  2. We request you to kindly read the article with text corrected as given below:

A. ‘ACE type 1 inhibitors’ as ‘ACE inhibitors’.

B. ‘Angiotensin type II receptor, ACE type II and Angiotensin receptor II as Angiotensin II receptor.

The main message of the text is not changed in any way, i.e. the ACE inhibitors can produce troublesome cough post-operatively which can lead to sternal dehiscence as exemplified in our case reports. Under these circumstances it is advisable to switch over to Losartan (Angiotensin II receptor antagonist) which in majority of patients does not have the side effect of cough.

We regret the errors in the original article.

Q. Abid, S. Rao Podila, S. Kendall
